Animal Experiments
Vote Cruelty Free opposes animal experiments on ethical grounds. Over 3 million animals are used for experiments in the UK every year. As a result an animal dies in a laboratory somewhere in the UK every 12 seconds. Not only can these experiments be scientifically unreliable in predicting effects in humans, but there are many non-animal alternatives that offer a cheaper, quicker and more accurate solution. As a first step towards sustained reductions in the use of animals in research, non medical animal tests or those that cause the most suffering should be targeted as a matter of priority.
Commitments sought from UK Government:
- Targeted reduction in the number of experiments
- A ban on the testing of household products on animals
- A ban on the use of dogs in research
- Access to full information about all animal experiments (not including the staff involved) licensed by the Home Office
- Establish the UK as the leading centre in the world for the development of non animal research
