Vote Cruelty Free believes that increased animal protection should be an integral part of government policy, at international, national and local level. It is clear that citizens would support the European Parliament doing more on this issue.
Commitments sought from European Parliament
- The appointment of a Commissioner for Animal Welfare with an overall responsibility for all animal issues.
- Establishment of an independent inspectorate, answerable to the Commissioner with adequate enforcement powers.
- Rigorous, enforceable EU legislative standards for all animals
- The European Parliament to lead calls for a Universal Declaration for the Protection of Animals under the auspices of the UN
