Vote Cruelty Free is opposed to the commercial hunting of seals, which is primarily for their fur, because of the cruelty involved, the unsustainable nature of the hunts, and the additional threat that global warming poses to seal populations.
Commitments sought from European Parliament
- Support and enforce a complete ban on the commercial trade and importation into the EU of seal products, with an exemption only for products from Inuit hunts.
- Renew diplomatic efforts with Canada, Norway, Denmark (Greenland) and Russia and Namibia to seek an end to cruel commercial seal hunts and the trade in seal products coming from these hunts
- Promote the ban in commercial seal products with like-minded countries
