Animal Experiments
Vote Cruelty Free calls on the European Parliament to phase out the use of animals in experiments. 12 million animals are used in experiments throughout the European Union every year.
Commitments sought from the EU:
- The creation of a European Centre for non animal research
- Existing alternatives should be made compulsory in order to reduce the number of animals used in experiments
- Principles of transparency, accountability and stakeholder scrutiny should be enshrined in law
- An immediate ban on experiments causing a high level of suffering,
- A ban on the use of Non Human Primates in research
- A flexible legislative framework to take into account public concern and advances in the development of alternative methods
